About Our Firm

JBS & Company, LLC, is a professional firm of Certified Public Accountants, management and technology consultants.

Our firm was established to provide efficient, expert solutions to businesses and individuals. Our primary services include accounting, taxation and business consulting. We also offer a host of specialty services to cater to the unique needs of our clients. Our partners and staff accountants serve a wide range of individuals, corporations, partnerships and non-profit organizations and are proficient in the accounting issues and tax laws that impact our clients.

Our Team

James K. Stitcher, MST, CPA (1941 - 2006)

Mr. Stitcher founded his initial practice in 1972 as a sole practitioner and subsequently developed into a multi-partner firm with over 500 clients in several Mid-Atlantic States and the District of Columbia.

Prior to founding his initial practice, Mr. Stitcher spent several years serving as an Assistant Treasurer with the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. and prior to that spent several years as a staff accountant with a large local CPA firm. He is a former Adjunct Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Maryland, University College.

Mr. Stitcher was a Certified Public Accountant. He held an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Benjamin Franklin University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southeastern University and a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Southeastern University. He was a registered representative with the brokerage firm of H.D. Vest Financial Services.

Mr. Stitcher was a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and served on the Management of an Accounting Practice Committee. He was also a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants. He was the past treasurer of several political organizations and was on the Board of Directors of several corporate clients.

Mr. Stitcher functioned as an office and director of the firm. His activities were focused in the areas of taxation, financial planning, establishment of retirement plans and related services.

J. Brian Stitcher, MBA, CPA, LLC Member

Mr. Stitcher joined the firm in 1986 as a staff accountant and became a partner of the firm in 1994. Mr. Stitcher left the firm in 1996, accepting the position as Chief Financial Officer of a large, local office equipment dealer. He was instrumental in the sale of this business to a publicly held company and returned to the firm in 1997.

Mr. Stitcher is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland, University College, and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Innovation, Operations and Technology from the University of Baltimore. He is also "Yellow Book CPE Certified", a requirement to perform audit services under Governmental Auditing Standards.

Mr. Stitcher is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Management Accountants. He is a past Treasurer of the Prince Georges County Board of Trade and the local chapter of the Business Technology Association.

Mr. Stitcher functions as the firm's managing officer/director. His activities are focused in the areas of management consulting and he is the "partner in charge" of many of the firm's audit engagements.

Derek Hobbs, CPA

Derek joined JBS & Company, LLC in January 2007 as a staff accountant and now serves as a principal in the firm. Prior to joining JBS & Company, Derek worked as a Staff Accountant at American Road and Transportation Builder’s Association and worked as a Senior Accountant at a manufacturing plant.

Derek provides auditing, review, tax and business advisory services to a broad range of clients. His advisory services consist of troubled business turnaround, operational efficiency, corporate finance and bonding consulting services. Although Derek works with a variety of clients in many different industries his primary focus is working with Construction Contractors. He is well versed in various accounting software systems such as Foundations and QuickBooks.

Derek received his B.S. in Finance at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Derek is a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Maryland Society of Accounting and Tax Professionals (MSATP) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Chesapeake Shores division.

Phil Headley

Phil joined JBS & Company in 2011, and currently serves as the firm’s senior “In Charge” auditor and accountant for many of the firm’s audit, review and compilation engagements. His primary clients consist of non-profits, construction contractors, mortgage companies, and employee benefit plans.

Phil has over 29 years of experience in the accounting field. Immediately prior to joining JBS & Company, he served 7 years in a controller-ship position with a regional mortgage company.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland.

Barbara Burdette

Barbara E Burdette, CPA joined JBS & Company, LLC in 2013 as a senior tax associate. She entered the profession in 1988. Prior to joining JBS Barbara was self-employed specializing in taxation. Barbara also worked for the DHHS, Office of Inspector General, Office of Audit.

Barbara primary focus is individual and fiduciary taxation. She heads up our tax resolution section working directly with IRS to resolve tax issues for individuals and business entities. This includes negotiating penalty abatements, Offers in Compromise, and tax examinations.

Barbara received a B.A. in Sociology from Washington College and a B.S. in finance from the University of Maryland, University College. She is a member of the Maryland Society of Certified Public Accountants and Chesapeake Women’s Network.

Alice Truscott

Alice joined JBS & Company in 2009 as a senior tax associate. Prior to joining JBS & Company, Alice worked for Earnest & Young in their tax department. She also worked for Converse, Inc., reporting directly to the Director of Tax. Her primary focus is the taxation of business entities including corporations, partnership and tax exempt organizations.

Her extensive experience includes multi-state taxation as well as entity structuring for common controlled business structures. Alice also provides research assistance in the areas of mergers, acquisitions, entity selection and succession planning.

Alice graduated from Brigham Young University, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance. Alice is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Relief Society, the largest women’s organization worldwide.

Heather Teat

Heather joined JBS & Company, LLC in December of 2015 as a staff accountant. She has since progressed to senior level staff and functions as the “in-charge” on several of the firms audit and review engagements. Since joining JBS & Company, Heather has developed an in-depth understanding of the unique accounting requirements for non-profit, government contractors and mortgage lenders. In addition, she heads up the firms “outsourced controllership” services.

Heather received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, with a minor in Business from University of MD, University College in the spring of 2017. She is currently preparing for the CPA exam and intends to pursue her Master’s degree upon completion.

As a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Heather gives back to the community by volunteering for Talbot County’s annual Waterfowl Festival, and through Habitat for Humanity.

Marti Patrick

Marti joined JBS & Company, LLC in March of 2016 as a staff accountant. Her responsibilities include tax preparation work for both individuals and companies. She is a certified QuickBooks Pro-Advisor.

Marti received her Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Chesapeake College. She is currently attending University of Maryland University College for her Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Business Administration.

Marti has volunteered with Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society for the past 11 years.

Zakary McMahan

Zak joined JBS & Company, LLC in February of 2017 as a staff accountant. His responsibilities include tax preparation work and assisting the firm with review and compilation procedures. He has become well-versed in QuickBooks and assists many of our clients with data entry and reconciliations.

Zak received his Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Chesapeake College. He is currently attending University of Wilmington for his Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Georgia Stitcher

Georgia joined JBS & Company in 2003 as the firm administrator. Prior to joining JBS Georgia gained extensive experience as the administrator of the Washington Office of a Global Technology and Staffing Company.

As the firm’s administrator, Georgia’s primary responsibility is managing the firm’s technology and e-services. She is also responsible for client relations, workflow management, and human resources.

Georgia has attended Anne Arundel Community College where she studied Management Information Systems and Cyber Forensics.
